Fifth graders perform play in honor of Constitution Week
In honor of Constitution Week, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, members of the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution helped fifth graders learn about how the U.S. Constitution was created. During the play, the students learned how the original 13 states had to work together to create the U.S. Constitution.
Each student who performed in the play was given a sign to wear around their neck for the state they were representing and a script with their part for the play highlighted. The students then passed a microphone among themselves as they read their parts in the negotiation by the states in creating the Constitution.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, the local chapter of the DAR teamed up with the Breckenridge High School FFA to provide a Constitution Week presentation for students and faculty in Bailey Auditorium.
FFA officers presented the American flag, FFA President Madi Warren read aloud the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, and the Breckenridge High School band played the National Anthem.
Last week, Breckenridge Mayor Bob Sims officially recognized Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in Breckenridge during a ceremony held in the city commissioners chambers.
