Breckenridge mayor proclaims Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week
Next week, Sept. 17-23, will officially be recognized as Constitution Week, following a proclamation by Breckenridge Mayor Bob Sims on Wednesday, Sept. 12. On hand to witness the signing of the proclamation were local members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lisa Echols, Mary Thompson, Eugenia Hall and Sally Thompson.
September 17 is designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1787. This year marks the 231st anniversary of that signing.
In honor of Constitution Week, the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the DAR will sponsor a ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Breckenridge High School’s Bailey Auditorium. Additionally, there will be a presentation at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at South Elementary.
