Stanley Dale Madison Jr., 28, of Breckenridge, pleaded guilty in the 90th Judicial District Court on Wednesday, Aug. 28, to three state jail felony offenses of burglary. The charges, filed by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, stem from burglaries committed at the Breckenridge Elks Lodge, Truman’s Beverage Barn (formerly known as Jonesy’s), and Perfect Pump and Supply in February and March 2023.

Madison appeared in court in Breckenridge after being transported from the Eastland County Jail on Thursday, Aug. 22, under a bench warrant. After pleading guilty to the charges, he was sentenced to 14 months in the State Jail; however, he has been in jail since his initial arrest in Tarrant County on March 10, 2023, and was given credit for 430 days of time served, Stephens County Sheriff Kevin Roach explained in an interview.

“Essentially, he was sentenced and given…’time served.'” the sheriff said. “So, he’s already served the sentence that was imposed. It’s basically done and over with in Stephens County.”

Additionally, Madison was ordered to pay restitution and court costs in the cases, for a total of $14,743.

According to Roach, Madison was arrested in March 2023 in Fort Worth while driving a vehicle that was reported stolen in Abilene. At that time, he was also wanted in Stephens County for outstanding warrants issued by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office following a burglary investigation, and he faced charges in other counties, as well.

“(In) Eastland, he had burglary (charges), and in Tarrant County, he got caught in the stolen vehicle he stole from Abilene,” the sheriff said.

In 2023, KTAB-TV reported that Madison was being held at the Tarrant County Corrections Center on six charges with a total bond of $53,500, including unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm (by a felon), three counts of burglary of a building, and theft of property.

Prior to his convictions in Stephens County this week, Madison had been convicted of those felony crimes he committed in Eastland, Tarrant and Taylor counties in 2023, Roach said.

According to reports from the 90th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Madison has convictions going back at least five years. In September 2019, then 23, he pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to five years of community supervision, and to pay fine, restitution and court costs. And, in August 2020, he pleaded true to the allegations in the State’s Motion to Adjudicate Community Supervision for the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 18 months confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – State Jail Division, and to pay remaining fine, restitution and court costs.

Following his court appearance in Stephens County on Wednesday, Madison was returned to the Eastland County Jail, Roach said. “He’s already been sentenced in all the other counties, and he still has time to serve on the sentences from the other counties,” the sheriff explained. “So he’s returned to Eastland, and they’ll transfer him to whatever punishment facility the state orders him sent to, to finish serving his sentences from those other counties.”
