Three Lady Bucks qualify for state powerlifting meet; boys to compete at regional meet on Friday
Three Breckenridge High School girls will be competing in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s State Powerlifting contest next week in Frisco.
At the Region 6 Division 3 meet on Saturday, March 2, the Lady Bucks Powerlifting Team competed at Bells High School, winning third place as a team with 28 points. At the regional meet, 14 Lady Bucks competed, earning eight medals.
Rylee Fuller placed first in her class with a total lift weight of 905 pounds; Joni Jackson placed second in her class with a total of 825 pounds; and Isabelle Biddison placed second in her class with a total of 485 pounds. They will be advancing to the state meet and are scheduled to leave for the competition on Wednesday, March 13.
Placing third were Cabel Perkins and Maria Duran; fourth place, Ruthie Valdez and Analia Palacios; and fifth place, Adriana Perez. Other top finishers for the Lady Bucks were Lizandra Rubio and Sylee Mitchell, seventh place; Kyra Canada, ninth place; and Bianca Gotschall, 11th place.
“All of these ladies will be returning next year to compete for a Regional Championship,” Coach Jarrod Shepperd wrote on the Breckenridge Buckaroo Athletics Facebook page. “I am extremely proud of this group of Lady Buckaroo athletes!”
Buckaroo Powerlifting
On the boys powerlifting team, 15 Buckaroos recently qualified for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s regional meet in Decatur on Friday, March 8.
Qualifying for the regional meet are Ashton Reyes, rank 2; Nathan Roberts, rank 2; Erik Saucedo, rank 2; Andre Reyes, rank 6; Fabricio Davila, rank 6; Carlos Alvarado, rank 6; Trevin McAlmond, rank 8; Alex Saucedo, rank 8; Adrian Saucedo, rank 8; Chey Wild, rank 10; Caiden Marin, rank 10; Cole Morton, rank 11; Eduardo Salazar, alternate; Jaydev Fernandez, alternate; and Jack McKay, alternate.
“They will have an opportunity to compete for a spot at the State level,” Shepperd said. “Please congratulate these young men on their hard work and dedication. I am very proud of the way they have competed this year!”

The Breckenridge Texan, a non-profit news outlet serving Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, has launched its annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign, running through Dec. 31, 2024.
As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.

The organization operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), which is the name that will appear on donation billing statements.
