TxDOT updates status of US 183 North, FM 3099 road projects

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has provided updates on two major road construction projects in Breckenridge in an email received by Stephens County Judge Michael Roach on April 28, 2025.
According to Jordan Perry, P.E., TxDOT’s Eastland Area Engineer, “As of Mid-April, traffic is in final configuration on the final surface with the traffic signals in operation on FM 3099.”
The FM 3099 project was started in 2022 to improve the FM 3099 roadway from Northglen Road to 0.2 miles south of U.S. Highway in Breckenridge, along with the intersection at U.S.180. The overall purpose of the project was to realign the intersection to match the northern portion of FM 3099. Previously, the intersection was disjointed, and to travel on FM 3099 across U.S. Highway 180, drivers had to turn onto the highway and travel about 200 feet before turning back onto the farm road.
The newly installed traffic light at the intersection of U.S. 180 West and FM 3099 was set as a four-way stop with flashing red lights on all sides from March 31 through April 16, when it was changed to a fully operational traffic signal.
This week’s update also addressed progress on the U.S. Highway 183 project. Perry stated that “the contractor is actively working on prepping the road to place final surface and have traffic in final configuration,” with “Mid-May 2025” remaining as the target completion date. At this time, the east lanes of the road are closed and all traffic continues to use the west lanes.
Perry emphasized that the projected completion dates are “weather permitting.”
