Water line repair complete and holding; Breckenridge water service schedule to be restored this afternoon

The repairs to the water valve between the City of Breckenridge’s water treatment plant and the water towers have been completed and are currently holding, according to City Manager Cynthia Northrop.
The City is beginning the process of re-pressurizing the water lines and will be opening valves slowing and flushing water lines.
This is the third day Breckenridge residents and businesses have been without water, following a busted water main in downtown Breckenridge that drained both towers on Tuesday morning.
During the initial repair process, as crews were isolating the leak, a valve leading from the Water Treatment Plant was closed and subsequently found to be broken in the shut position, preventing the water towers from being refilled. Repairs made while replacing the valve on Wednesday did not hold, and the towers could not be refilled last night. But, the crews started working on a new repair early this morning.
Early Wednesday morning, Breckenridge Mayor Bob Sims declared a state of emergency for the city of Breckenridge due to the problems.
