The City of Breckenridge is facing another water crisis today, Tuesday, May 19, as a leak in a pipe on the banks of Gunsolus Creek under the bridge on East Walker Street drained the water tower on the east side of town.

Effective Saturday, May 16, 2026, the City of Breckenridge has rescinded the boil water notice that was issued on Wednesday, May 13, for the southeastern quadrant of Breckenridge due to a damaged water line.
Breckenridge City Manager Cynthia Northrop said in a phone call with the Breckenridge Texan this afternoon, May 13, that city crews have isolated the leak and stopped the flow of water from the broken water line at the intersection of South Jackson Street and East Hullum.
The Stephens Regional Special Utility District has rescinded the Boil Water Notice for its customers that were affected by the notice issued on Wednesday, April 15.
The notice applies to all customers of the Stephens Regional Special Utility District except those customers fed by the line on and off of U.S. Highway 183 North, the Crystal Falls, Woodson areas, and Village Inn and Tanglewood areas.
Effective today, Tuesday, Dec. 16, the City of Breckenridge has lifted the city-wide Boil Water Notice that was initially issued on Tuesday, Dec. 9, according to a notice issued shortly after noon today.
Following Thursday’s repairs to the water pipelines, the City of Breckenridge’s water system continues to pressurize today, although the process is moving slowly.
The repairs to the water valve between the City of Breckenridge’s water treatment plant and the water towers have been completed and are currently holding, according to City Manager Cynthia Northrop.
Crews continue to work today, Thursday, Dec. 11, on repairing the City of Breckenridge pipelines that have created a three-day water outage for the community; bottled water distribution continues at City Park.
The repair to a water line valve that crews worked on all day isn’t holding, and water service will not be restored to the community tonight, according to Breckenridge City Manager Cynthia Northrop.
