Two local areas are under boil water notices after both the City of Breckenridge and the Stephens Regional Special Utility District (rural water) issued notices.

City of Breckenridge Boil Water Notice

Due to a water line repair on Thursday, Oct. 23, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Breckenridge’s public water system to notify customers in the southwest corner of the city to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). The affected area includes W. Elliott at Sunset, east to Mistletoe, south and then back west and north on S. Post Oak Road; includes Chaparrel Neighborhood, Meadowgreen Apts.and immediate area to west of S. Post Oak Road (see the map below).

Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the City of Breckenridge officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

SRSUD Boil Water Notice

Due to a loss of pressure as a result of a power outage on Oct. 24, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required water system PWS 2150007, Stephens Regional Special Utility District, to notify customers in the southwest portion of the county of the need to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). The Boil Water Notice applies to customers of the SRSUD on Highway 183 South, beginning at the County Road 146 Intersection, extending south, including FM 1032 and all adjacent county roads. (See the map below.)

Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

SRSUD officials encourage everyone to share this information with anyone who might drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
