Breckenridge Police Chief Blake Johnson said that the suspect in a deadly shooting in Breckenridge was taken into custody by the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, following a brief search that included at least two counties.
“Tonight we responded to a shooting. We had a deceased person, and (the Breckenridge Police Department), along with the (Stephens County) Sheriff’s Office, … the constable … I think I even saw the park ranger was out here…are working it,” Johnson said. “The Texas Rangers are handling the investigation. An apprehension was made. And … it’s still pretty fresh right now, so as far as what we got, why…all the other stuff’s … still kind of up in the air.”
The shooting took place at a residence on South Stoker Avenue Friday afternoon, and Stephens County Judge Michael Roach said he pronounced the victim deceased at about 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon. Roach was filling in for Justice of the Peace Steve Spoon, who is on vacation.
Immediately after the shooting, law enforcement officers in Stephens County began searching for the suspect.
Johnson said the shooting was the result of an altercation between family members but that he cannot release the names of anyone involved yet.
He said that he didn’t know all of the details about the arrest but that no charges have been filed yet.
“What typically happens, procedurally, is that a warrant will be issued. He’ll be booked on the warrant, and then, ultimately, he’ll be extradited back here,” Johnson said.
The Breckenridge Texan will provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
