BFAC to host reception for Juried Art Show on Oct. 5

The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center will host a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, for the artists featured 2024 Juried Art Show.

The reception will close the 32nd annual art show, which features works from artists in six states and 32 Texas counties. The reception will be open to the public, offering everyone a chance to visit with the artists in attendance.

The artwork, on exhibit in the BFAC’s main gallery, includes oil paintings, pencil drawings, pastels, fiber art, mixed media, bronze sculptures and more.

The winning artworks are:

Best of Show – “The Artist” – oil – by Barbara Hack of Flower Mound
First Place, the Shalon Taylor Wilson Memorial Award – “Reclining London” – oil – by Adam Lancaster of Denton
Second Place, the Lester and Virginia Clark Memorial Award – “Balance” – pencil – by Jesse Lane of The Woodlands
Third Place, the Beene Award – “Summer Santa” – oil – by Beverly Boren of Trophy Club
Honorable Mention
- “Aspirations” – oil – by Nora Dempsey of Fredericksburg
- “First Saddle” – bronze – by Margaret Drake of Glen Rose
- “The Jester” – pencil – by Kinsey Lane of The Woodlands
- “Ocean Eye with tentacle wrap” – glass – by Rees Bowen of Dallas
Special Mention – “New Years 2020, Spur Hotel, Archer City, TX” – oil – by Robert Hollis of Granbury

Those visiting the show also can take a look at a separate exhibit featuring the pottery work of the show’s juror, Christopher Stanley, an associate professor of art at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa. His exhibited work ranges from the large “Rocket Pot II” to a platter featuring a stenciled hand print. A copy of his Artist Statement is displayed with the exhibit to give visitors to the BFAC some insight into his work.

The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center, which is located at 207 N. Breckenridge Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
