At a special noon school board meeting today, Monday, Sept. 23, Prairie Freeman was named as the lone finalist for the Breckenridge Independent School District’s superintendent position.
Freeman has served as the interim superintendent since May when former superintendent Bryan Allen resigned to take the superintendent position with the Clyde Consolidated Independent School District.
Prior to taking the interim position, Freeman was the BISD Deputy Superintendent for BISD. She also has served as the BISD Chief Academic Officer, principal of South Elementary and other positions in the school district.
After the announcement, Freeman thanked the BISD Board of Trustees. “I appreciate it; I really, really do,” she said. “Thanks for hanging in there with me.”
It will be at least three weeks before Freeman is permanently hired for the position, because Texas state law requires school districts to release the names of the finalist(s) being considered for a superintendent position at least 21 days before the date a final action or vote is to be taken on the employment of the person.
“We have to abide by a 21-day period to see if the board is happy with the candidate and the candidate is happy with it,” Freeman said. “We’re required to do that…And it’s really for both parties.”
