Bryan Allen has been named as the lone finalist for the Clyde Consolidated Independent School District and has submitted his resignation from his position as the superintendent of the Breckenridge Independent School District.

At a special meeting of the BISD Board of Trustees on May 2, the school board authorized President Nic McClymond to negotiate the exit of Allen regarding his unused vacation and the timing of his departure.

The school board also voted to appoint BISD Deputy Superintendent Prairie Freeman to serve as interim superintendent for the district pending the hiring of a new superintendent.

McClymond said he expects Allen’s last day with the district to be around May 24, when the Clyde school board meets again and votes to officially make Allen the superintendent. Texas state law requires school districts to release the names of the finalists being considered for a superintendent position at least 21 days before the date of the meeting at which a final action or vote is to be taken on the employment of the person.

Currently, Allen is helping Freeman transition into the position as interim superintendent, McClymond said.

The Clyde school district is slightly larger than BISD. According to the Texas Education Agency, in October 2023, Clyde CISD had an enrollment of 1,408 and BISD had an enrollment of 1,390. Clyde is in the same UIL district as the Breckenridge Buckaroos for football, district 3-3A; the Clyde Bulldogs will travel to Breckenridge for the Buckaroos’ first district game this fall.

Clyde is located in Callahan County, just east of Abilene on Interstate 20.

The Breckenridge ISD Board of Trustees will have its regular meeting on Monday, May 13. Click here to see the agenda for the meeting.
