Houston Satterwhite has signed up to run as a write-in candidate for the Precinct 3 County Commissioner position, Stephens County Judge Michael Roach said.

He will face incumbent Will Warren in the November General Election. Warren ran unopposed in the Republican Primary in March.

Earlier this month, Stephens County resident Chad Jones filed to run as a write-in candidate for the Precinct 1 County Commissioner position against incumbent David Fambro, who ran unopposed in the Republican Primary in March.

According to the Texas Secretary of State’s website, in Texas, a candidate may run for office as a declared write-in in the general election for state and county offices. A declared write-in candidate must submit a Declaration of Write-in Candidacy and submit a filing fee or petition in lieu of a filing fee in order for votes cast for that candidate to be counted in the election.

For the upcoming election, the Declaration of Write-in Candidacy, along with the filing fee or petition in lieu of a filing fee, must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.

County Judge Roach said during the election, voters who want to vote for a write-in candidate must write the name exactly as it is on the candidate’s application. There will be a list of all of the write-in candidates’ names in the voting booth, he explained.
