Stephens County resident Chad Jones has signed up to run as a write-in candidate for the Precinct 1 County Commissioner position, County Judge Michael Roach said.

He will face incumbent David Fambro in the November General Election. Fambro ran unopposed in the Republican Primary in March.

According to the Texas Secretary of State’s website, in Texas, a candidate may run for office as a declared write-in in the general election for state and county offices. A declared write-in candidate must submit a Declaration of Write-in Candidacy and submit a filing fee or petition in lieu of a filing fee in order for votes cast for that candidate to be counted in the election.

For the upcoming election, the Declaration of Write-in Candidacy, along with the filing fee or petition in lieu of a filing fee, must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2024.
