SRSUD issues Boil Water Notice for rural water customers in portion of southeastern Stephens County
Due to a loss of pressure caused by a line break on June 8, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the Stephens Regional Special Utility District water system, PWS 2150007, to notify its customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.).
The Boil Water Notice is for SRSUD rural water customers in the southeastern portion of the county, specifically those on FM 207 and FM 576 East beginning 2 miles east of the Highway 183 intersection, and on FM 1852, including all adjacent Stephens County roads. SRSUD customers who do not live in those specified areas are not under the notice.
Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all affected customers should follow these directions.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
SRSUD asks its customers to share information about the Boil Water Notice with anyone who drinks the water.
For more information, contact the SRSUD office at 254-559-6180 during business hours or Kelvin Nickell, water treatment plant operator, at 254-488-2333.
