Entire City of Breckenridge under Boil Water Notice after water main break

The entire City of Breckenridge is under a Boil Water Notice as crews work to repair a 12-inch water line that has experienced a major break this afternoon on West Fourth Street.

The City had to shut down valves as they troubleshoot the situation, which is affecting a majority of Breckenridge residents. The City will provide updates when available.

Breckenridge Independent School District students were released early today due to the water outage at the schools. Additionally, most restaurants in town are closed due to the water being shut off while the City worked on the water line.

Due to the water main break, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City to notify all customers within the affected area to boil their water prior to consumption. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled for two minutes. Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

The Boil Water Notice will be in effect for a minimum of 48 hours. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify each customer directly in the affected area.

For more information, call the City Offices at 254-559-8287 or the Water Office at 254-559-7249.
