Frogs, flies and various swamp things, as well as some princesses, royal knights and others, have invaded Bailey Auditorium this week as the National Theatre and the Friends of Historic Breckenridge host the Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp for a production of “The Frog Prince.”

Featuring a cast of about 40 Breckenridge kids, “The Frog Prince” will be performed twice on Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Admission will be free and open to the public.

The cast has been rehearsing all week, under the direction of Missoula directors Erik Heuchert and Mark Sheme. The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit children’s theater organization based in Missoula, Montana.

The theater camp and production of “The Frog Prince” were originally scheduled to take place in the National Theatre, but a hail storm in May caused extensive damage to the roof of the historic building in downtown Breckenridge. So, in the spirit of “the show must go on,” the activities were relocated to Bailey Auditorium, next door to Breckenridge High School at 500 W. Lindsey St.

This year is the first time in three years that the camp has been offered in Breckenridge. The two-year absence was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, the National Theatre’s Missoula Theatre Camp presented “Gulliver’s Travels” in 2018 and “The Snow Queen” in 2019.

For more information on this year’s theater camp, visit the FOHB website or the National Theatre’s Facebook page.
