Earlier this month, Stephens County and Breckenridge law enforcement officers participated in the second annual 90th Judicial District Attorney Shootout hosted by DA Dee Peavy and her office.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, teams from law enforcement agencies throughout the 90th Judicial District for Young and Stephens counties converged on the Loving Community Center and Rifle Range to take part in the event. Participating teams included those from the Breckenridge Police Department, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, 90th Judicial District Community Supervision Department, Graham Police Department, Young County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and a team fielded by the District Attorney’s Office.

The multi-stage course of fire was supervised by Larry Fuller and Greg Coker, acting as Rangemasters. According to a news release from the DA’s office, the different stages were intended to take the participants out of their comfort zones and present them with real world scenarios requiring technical skills with both weak-hand and strong-hand shooting techniques, movement and shooting from cover.

Throughout the various stages, all teams were close in overall scores, but when the smoke finally cleared, the Texas Department of Public Safety edged out the last year’s winner, Young County Sheriff’s Department, for overall Top Shooting Team honors. On an individual basis, Trevor Topper of the Texas Department of Public Safety was recognized as the “Top Shot” of the day and awarded a Jon Hart pistol case donated by Graham Savings and Loan.

Participants were treated to lunch furnished through donations from sponsors and purchased from Rock Bottom Barbeque. Also, a drawing was held and participants were awarded prizes and gift cards through sponsor donations. Officer Justin Rose of the Breckenridge Police Department won Texas Ranger’s tickets with parking passes donated by Graham Savings and Loan.

Peavy said she  was pleased with the success of the event and was especially appreciative of the donations received from ARMM Investments, L.L.C., Bennett Family Investments, Bryan Insurance Agency, Burkett Enterprises, Inc., Chicken Express, Christian and White Properties, Ciera Bank, David and Lyn Clark, Steve and Donna Denney, Echo Production, Inc., Graham Savings and Loan, Jack and Angie Graham, Win and Suzy Graham, Greco Services, Elton M.
