On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Breckenridge Police Department will host the seventh annual National Night Out in Breckenridge from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stephens County Law Enforcement Center, 210 E. Dyer St.

National Night Out is a national community event that focuses on growing the partnership between law enforcement and the community in the fight against crime. Most other states celebrate NNO in August, but Texas celebrates in October due to the heat.

Admission to the event is free. Breckenridge PD, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Fire Department and others will provide free food, drinks, activities and prizes. There will be Child ID/Fingerprinting and face painting. Classic rock music will be provided on site by Q94.7 FM, and the Air Evac helicopter is anticipated to land around 7 p.m.

The 200 block of East Dyer Street and the front parking lot of the LEC will be blocked off for the event.

Some of the groups expected to participate this year include the Breckenridge Police Department and 9-1-1 Call Center, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Fire Department and Code Enforcement, AIR EVAC Lifeteam, Texas Department of Public Safety, Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, Stephens Memorial Hospital, Sacred Cross EMS, Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, Stephens County Animal Welfare Center, Dr. Goodall’s House-CAC/CASA, Stephens County adult and juvenile probation office, city/county/district court officers, MHMR/Betty Hardwick Center, Central West Texas COG, Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, Texas State Technical College and local civic and business organizations.
