New school year kicks off at BISD
The 2018-19 school year got off to a good start in Breckenridge this morning, Thursday, Aug. 16.
No major problems were reported at the five Breckenridge Independent School District campuses, as faculty, staff, students and parents returned for the first day of school.
Tim Seymore, BISD superintendent, said everything seemed to go smoothly this morning, including at Breckenridge High School, where road construction around the campus required the school district to create a new system for parents to drop off and pick up students from BHS and the junior high.
“The pick-up/drop-off (at the high school and junior high) was probably better than any pick-up/drop-off since I’ve been here, because it was well-managed,” Seymore said. “The only hiccup we had were the handful of people who didn’t ever get the message or see the maps and tried to come in from the backside and couldn’t figure out where to drop off and turn around. We redirected them and told them, ‘Tomorrow, go over here.’ Really, it went pretty well. We had a lot of help from the police department and staff out there, and so it all went pretty smoothly.”
East Elementary also is affected this year by road construction on East Walker Street (U.S. Highway 180 East), just a block from the campus. But, Seymore said, no problems were reported.
The Breckenridge Texan’s 2018 Back to School page has several stories with information and downloads, such as the downloadable maps for the BHS/BJHS drop-off/pick-up locations and parking options, a downloadable 2018-19 BISD calendar, plus links to the district’s online calendars, information about buying reserved football tickets, and more.
In preparation for the first day of school, each elementary held Meet the Teacher events on Tuesday, giving students a chance to drop off their school supplies, check out their classrooms and, of course, meet their teachers and other staff at the schools.
