With today’s temperatures remaining below freezing and many streets still iced over, the winter storm that moved into the area on Friday, continues to have an impact on Breckenridge and Stephens County.

The offices of the City of Breckenridge, Stephens County and Breckenridge Independent School District will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, and all local school classes have been canceled for Monday, due to road conditions caused by the winter storm that entered the area on Friday, Jan. 23.
The first big winter storm of the season, especially for this area, is forecast for this weekend, prompting preparations from people in a wide swath of the country, from the Southern Plains to New England. Breckenridge and Stephens County are under a Winter Storm Warning and an Extreme Cold Watch with the low temperature predicted to get as low as 2 degrees overnight Sunday-Monday.
Another cold front is headed our way, and local officials are preparing to assist anyone who needs help during the winter weather.
Breckenridge schools will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 24.

Although most of the snow has melted and temperatures have returned to normal, many Stephens County residents continue to deal with the lasting effects of the recent winter storm. But, assistance is still available for local residents.
The Texas Army National Guard unit out of Dyess Air Force Base delivered four pallets of bottled water to Stephens County tonight. The water will be handed out Sunday afternoon, Feb. 21, to local residents who are still without drinking water.
