BISD announces two-hour delay Wednesday morning as winter weather returns to area

Breckenridge and Stephens County are under a Winter Weather Advisory that is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, and continue through 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. The area could receive a wintery mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Breckenridge Independent School District has announced a two-hour delay for school on Wednesday morning. If additional delays or cancelations are necessary, school officials will notify parents Wednesday morning.

Additionally, Stephens County Judge Michael Roach announced that the Courthouse will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Early Voting will continue at that time.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation overnight from tonight through early Wednesday, but no accumulations are expected. The chance for freezing precipitation will continue through Wednesday, increasing to 80 percent Wednesday night. The freezing rain and sleet are likely before noon on Thursday, with lessening chances throughout the day.

Wednesday’s high temperature is predicted to be 23 degrees. On Thursday, the high could climb to 36 degrees. By Friday, the skies are expected to clear, and the daytime high is forecast at 43. A chance of wintery mix returns on Friday night and Saturday.
