Many Stephens County residents woke up this morning to smoke drifting across the area, but the Breckenridge Fire Department assured the community on Facebook that the smoke is from the Ross Fire in Palo Pinto and Jack counties and there are no fires in Stephens County at this time.

As firefighters from across the area and around the state help battle the Ross Fire in Palo Pinto and Jack counties, Stephens County has enacted an emergency burn ban with more restrictions than have been in place recently.
The wildfire has burned about 3,150 acres in Stephens County and is about 75% contained, according to the Texas Forest Service.
