BFD fights wildfire on Highway 67 this afternoon
The Breckenridge Fire Department battled a wildfire on State Highway 67 this afternoon, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The fire, on the east side of the road about two miles north of U.S. Highway 180, was called in by someone who initially saw the fire and tried to extinguish it before realizing more help would be necessary, officials on the scene said. The fire mostly burned grass and trees on the shoulder, with a small amount of pasture across the fence getting scorched.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and no one was hurt.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control, and Fire Marshal and Constable Wayne McMullen assisted with traffic and firefighting.
