Ernest Vincent
Ernest (Soxie) Vincent, 95, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away on April 25, 2026; five days shy of his 96th birthday.
He was the son of Glen G. and Ruby Vincent. His parents moved to Breckenridge in 1927 to open “Vincent’s Corner.” Soxie was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and all-around daredevil. He shot his first deer at the age of 10. Soxie was a competitive fisherman, especially with his dad when they would go back and forth on who caught “The Big One.”
The Vincent family spent weekends at their cabin on Possum Kingdom Lake in Caddo Slough. Fishing, boating and skiing were normal activities. Soxie excelled at teaching kids to water ski. He loved anything fun or slightly dangerous.
He graduated Wentworth Military Academy in 1948 then joined the United States Navy where he was stationed in Guam. Soxie then returned to Breckenridge to open A & A Electric. He wired homes and did general electrical work along with building miles of electrical lines serving oil and gas production.
He got his pilot’s license in 1963 and spent many hours flying a plane or power parachute.
Soxie leaves behind five children: Carolyn Land, Nancy Carey, Linda Burton, Patti Sloan and Ernest W Vincent Jr.; along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private Celebration Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizen Meals, Renew Heath Care, the staff of Villa Haven and Solaris for the kindness and care they provided. Special thanks to Lea Brown for being dad’s angel.
There are many stories about Soxie, most of them probably being true. He lived boldly, laughed often, had a great sense of humor, worked hard and loved deeply. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming… WOW! What a RIDE!
And what a ride it was.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Soxie’s honor to Meals on Wheels & Senior Citizen Meals and left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be left and meltonkitchens.com.
