Gary Don Francis
Gary Don Francis, 72, of Breckenridge, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 8, 1953, in Anson.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and loyal friend. He lived with warmth, humor, and a quick wit that could light up any room. Known for his playful spirit and gift for storytelling, Gary had a special way of making others feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether sharing a laugh, offering wise counsel, or simply enjoying a quiet moment together, he left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Family was the center of Gary’s world. Gary was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Don Francis and mother Margaret Fern (Mayfield) Francis. He shared a beautiful and enduring love with his beloved wife, Carla of 53 years. Together, they built a life grounded in strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
He was a proud father to Jennifer and Jeremy, and to his son Jason, who preceded him in death. Gary lovingly welcomed his children’s spouses into the family: Nathan Clements, husband of Jennifer, and Jennifer Francis, wife of Jeremy. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren — Jessica, Brandon, Brooklyn, Nicholas, Jordon, Cody, Amber, Caleb, and Emma — and his precious great-grandchildren, Laylah and Gunnar, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Gary is also survived by his loving siblings, Liz Roedel, Debbie Smith, and Mike Francis, as well as several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A lover of simple joys, Gary had a deep affection for dogs and rarely met one he didn’t befriend. He found peace in looking out over the lake, watching the ducks glide across the water — moments of quiet reflection that brought him comfort and contentment.
Gary faced his illness with the same wit and humor that defined his life. Even on his hardest days, he found ways to make others smile, lightening heavy moments with a joke or a playful remark, and reminding those around him of his enduring strength of spirit.
A memorial service celebrating Gary’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.
Though he will be deeply missed, Gary’s stories, laughter, and love will continue to echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His was a life well lived, richly blessed, and beautifully remembered.
