At the annual meeting of the Texas Lions Camp Board of Directors on Aug. 2 in Kerrville, Ann Ward of Austin was installed as chair for 2025-26. A native of Breckenridge, Ward is the daughter of the late Tom B. and Loyce Ward, long-time residents of Breckenridge.

Ward graduated from Breckenridge High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University.

Ward was elected secretary of the Texas Lions Camp (TLC) board in 2020 and has moved through the offices of treasurer, third, second and first vice presidents. She is a member of the Austin Founder Lions Club and is the first member of her club to serve as chair of the camp board since TLC was founded in 1949.

With more than 40 years of communications knowledge and expertise, Ward urged board members to help put the spotlight on TLC for campers and parents, current and potential philanthropic partners, and the Lions of Texas, who own the camp. She pledged to improve communications with Lions Club members and the public with the goal of recruiting more campers.

Texas Lions Camp, Inc.,  provides, without charge, a camp for children from the State of Texas who are physically disabled, as well as those who have Down syndrome, cancer and Type 1 diabetes, regardless of race, religion or national origin. Established as a Texas nonprofit corporation in 1949, Texas Lions Camp has provided a summer camping experience for more than 85,000 children with special medical conditions since it opened in 1953.

TLC is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on higher ground away from flood prone areas. Despite the tragic July 4, 2025, flooding, TLC was able to continue camp operations. This summer, TLC offered six weeks of residential youth camp, four sessions of family camp, and two sessions of a hybrid family/youth day camp, serving a total of 1,169 children and their parents. TLC’s goal is to introduce children to the “Can Do” philosophy that enables them to achieve maximum personal growth and self-esteem.

The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association and is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. TLC has a prestigious Four-Star rating from Charity Navigator and is an active participant in GuideStar.
