David Ray Boyd
David Ray Boyd passed away in his hometown of Breckenridge, Texas, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at the age of 85. Despite the pain, David stayed strong and independent until the end of his battle.
As a child, David always enjoyed being outside and taking care of animals, especially horses. David’s life dreams were fulfilled when, later in life, he owned his own barn with horses, goats, and many chickens. David spent a lot of his spare time assisting with the 4-H society, FFA, and all types of dancing with his wife, BJ. David was a member of the square dancing club and was the 5th captain of the Stephens Co. Sheriff’s Posse. David attended Breckenridge High School and then joined the Marines. David served his country for years until he was honorably discharged. David then returned to Stephens County, where he worked for the mobile home factory. After his career at the factory, David worked a number of years for Stephens County. David then started working for the City of Breckenridge, where he worked until his retirement.
Retirement didn’t stick long: he began working for the rock quarry until the age of 83! David was a very hard-working, independent man. While David was working, he also took care of his family, kids, and animals. David continued to be an avid animal lover throughout his life and was able to teach his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all about animals and how to care for them. David loved his family and grandchildren and was always trying to make it to their sporting events, extracurricular activities, and 4-H/FFA shows. David loved to take his grandchildren on trips and make memories with them.
David was preceded in death by his wife, BJ Boyd; parents, Robert Lee and Cleo Boyd; son-in-law, Keith Wilcher; son, Greg Walker; grandson, Coby McNabb; great-grandson, Blake Hamilton; and siblings, LC, Kenneth, Micky, Baby Boyd, Edna Poteet, and Eva Latham.
David is survived by his children, Robbie Boyd and wife Tammy of Breckenridge, Liquita Perez and husband Mando of Breckenridge, Devita Wilcher Lueders, and Michelle McNabb and husband Clark of Breckenridge; sisters, Samantha Pesch, Vaneta McCullough, and Mildred McCullough and husband Jerry; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandkids with one on the way; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
