Boil water notice issued for one Breckenridge quadrant
The City of Breckenridge Public Works Director Houston Satterwhite has declared a boil water notice for the Breckenridge water customers within the new “Friday Trash Service” pick-up area, excluding the customers on and north of Walker Street, effective Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017.
A water line break has required valves to be turned off, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required that all affected customers be notified to boil their water prior to consumption.
To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled for at least two minutes. In lieu of boiling water, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water for some other suitable source, according to the City of Breckenridge.
The boil water notice will be in effect for a minimum of 48 hours. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify each customer directly in the affected area.
City Secretary Heather Robertson-Caraway said that it’s likely that the results will not be back before Monday. However, she said, if the results come back from the lab in Abilene before then, she will lift the notice immediately.
