BISD releases new drop-off, pick-up route for East Elementary

After a rough pick-up procedure at East Elementary School on the first day of school earlier this week, the school district has released a new plan, scheduled to be implemented on Monday, Aug. 11.
According to the map posted on the East Elementary Facebook page, the routes will be the same for drop-offs in the morning and pick-ups in the afternoon. See the map below for more details.
Kindergarten, first-grade and second-grade students will be dropped off and picked up on the southside (front) of the school in the drive-through student drop-off/pick-up zone. Vehicles will enter off of the Industrial Loop, aka North Graham Avenue, driving west through the drive-through. Vehicles should line up in a single-file line along the Industrial Loop on the west side of the street, heading south. The line will extend to the north on the Industrial Loop.
Due to the length of the car line, the school district advises drivers to enter onto the Industrial Loop from either East Connell Street or Brown Road. It is strongly recommended not use North Hartford Street or East Lindsey Street to access the car line. Enforcement will be on-site at all times to ensure that parents enter the car line on the west side of the school in an orderly first-come, first-served basis. If necessary, vehicles can continue to line up on the Industrial Loop, as far as necessary.
On Tuesday, there were some issues with vehicles passing those waiting in line and attempting to cut in closer to the school. On Wednesday afternoon, Breckenridge Police officers were on hand to try and prevent that from happening again.
The new route map shows pre-kindergarten students being dropped off and picked up on North Hartford Street on the west side of the school with vehicles entering Hartford on East Dyer Street and exiting on East Lindsey Street.
Buses will pick up and drop off on North Hartford Street on the west side of the school.
Earlier this year, some issues were discovered with the route the school had been using for drop-offs and pick-ups, and the City of Breckenridge hired a traffic engineer to design a new route. After some parents waiting in line for over an hour on Tuesday, with some kids not getting into their vehicles until around 5 p.m., the city and school officials met again with the engineer to come up with another route. Some parents were also concerned about the safety of the children getting in and out of cars on the Industrial Loop, which often has large trucks traveling to and from the businesses north of the school.
