Boil Water Notice continues for Breckenridge residents after storm damages water pump
UPDATE: The Boil Water Notice has been lifted as of Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The City of Breckenridge remains under a Boil Water Notice due to continued problems over the Easter holiday weekend.
During the storms Saturday night into early Sunday morning, the City of Breckenridge’s booster pump apparatus at the west water tower sustained damage and caused a water leak, according to a media advisory from City Manager Cynthia Northrop Monday morning, April 21.
Crews identified the location of the leak and immediately began emergency repairs, she said.
“The repairs were much more extensive than our crews could address on a holiday weekend,” Northrop said in the advisory. “City of Breckenridge (Public Works) Crew is working with a contractor to complete the repairs. We estimate the repairs will be completed today (Monday, April 21), by late afternoon. If repairs are completed today, we will take a water sample early tomorrow morning (4.22.25) and will get results within 24 hours. We appreciate the residents’ continued patience as we work to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.”
A break in a main water line on Thursday, April 17, drained both of the city’s water towers, leaving the community without water for several hours and requiring a Boil Water Notice for all Breckenridge residents and businesses. The pipe was repaired Thursday evening, but the Boil Water Notice remained in place, as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
