The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center will host a Texas history event on Saturday, March 8, featuring hands-on, historical demonstrations and an art talk.

As part of the “Remembering the Republic of Texas” exhibit in the main gallery, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas – Picketville Chapter – will be in full period costume, guiding those in attendance through hands-on history lessons via the displays they have set up in the main gallery. The exhibit includes a variety of household utensils and farming/ranching tools, including pots and pans, hatchets, clothing, butter churns, clothing, pocket watches and much more.

At 2 p.m., Charles Morin, an expert in vintage Texas art, will lead a Texas Art Talk, featuring a deep dive into “Vintage Texas Art: Paintings, Utilitarian & Art Pottery, & Sculpture.” The talk will explore the historical significance, collecting, investing, and the deep passion behind Texas art, beyond just “pretty pictures.”

The talk is in conjunction with the Texas art exhibit that has been on display this month in the BFAC’s smaller gallery. The exhibit is on loan from Morin, who owns galleries in Fredericksburg and San Antonio. There are about 40 vintage Texas paintings, vintage Texas utilitarian pottery (1850s–1900), vintage Texas art pottery (1950s–1980s), vintage Texas sculptures, and a selection of contemporary Texas paintings.

Additionally, during Morin’s talk on March 8, there will be a curated group of special pieces that will be exhibited locally only during the talk.

Morin’s presentation is expected to last about 45 minutes, with plenty of time for questions and discussion. It’s a perfect opportunity for art enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone interested in Texas heritage to dive deeper into this unique and often overlooked art form, said BFAC Director Rhonda Crawford.

The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center is located at 207 N. Breckenridge Ave. and  is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, with exception for special events.
