As we approach mid-November, the calendar is filling up with holiday events, from the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree, along with Mingle and Jingle, this weekend to the Christmas parade next month.

Check out the following upcoming activities:

Turkey Dinner

The last we heard, First Methodist Church of Breckenridge still had a few tickets left to the annual Turkey Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The Turkey Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include turkey, dressing, gravy, potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin or pecan pie. For those dining in, there will be tea, coffee or water to drink.

Tickets to the Turkey Dinner cost $15 per person and are available in advance only from church members, at the church office and at Clear Fork Bank and InterBank. No tickets will be sold at the door.

A bake sale will also be going on during the Turkey Dinner.

Tree Lighting and Mingle & Jingle

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will team up with the City of Breckenridge to host the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree on the corner of Breckenridge Avenue and Walker Street at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.

Following the tree lighting, local businesses in the downtown area and beyond will be open late for the Mingle & Jingle shopping event. Many of the businesses will be offering specials, as well as participating in the Chamber’s Mingle & Jingle Passport program, which will offer shoppers a chance to win prizes after visiting each of the participating businesses.

This year, the Mingle & Jingle sales events will continue on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Check out the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page for more information.

Breckenridge Craft Guild Show

The Breckenridge Craft Guild will host their annual Crafts Show at the First Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.

The event will include a variety of arts and crafts vendors, selling their products, including hand-painted art, metal art, woodwork, handmade jewelry, paper crafts, cards, pens and other handmade items. There will also be vendors with food items, such as homemade salsa, bread and jam and Christmas treats. Other items will include lotions, lip balms and more.

BS Cookers will be at the craft show on Saturday, selling barbecue from their food truck.

Christmas Parade

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will host the annual downtown Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 14. This year’s theme will be “Rockin’ Around Walker Street.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

There will be more details to come on having a float in the parade.

Help support the Breckenridge Texan’s local news coverage mission

The Breckenridge Texan, a non-profit news outlet serving Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, has launched its annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign, running through Dec. 31, 2024.

As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.

Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.

In addition to regular news coverage, the Breckenridge Texan also offers:

weekly newsletter that delivers a roundup of recent stories via email every Monday

Photo galleries from local events

Calendar of Events, which lists upcoming community activities

Local obituaries

And more

Donations can be made through the Breckenridge Texan website’s donate page, the NewsMatch campaign page, or by mail to Breckenridge Texan, P.O. Box 1228, Breckenridge, Texas 76424. The organization operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), which is the name that will appear on donation billing statements.
