Annual bike ride raises funds for local volunteer fire departments

Dozens of bike riders gathered in the Breckenridge City Park on Saturday morning, Oct. 19, for the eighth annual Sloan Everett Pure Country Pedal Memorial Bike Ride, raising funds for local volunteer fire departments.
The event included the bike ride, food trucks and entertainment by the Urban Pioneers, as well as other fundraising activities. Kasey Ragle and the Everett family welcomed participants, and Shonda Wood sang the National Anthem to open the event.
The bike ride was organized in 2017, just a few months after Sloan Everett died saving cattle from a wildfire on a ranch in the Texas Panhandle. For the past five years, the organizers of the bike ride have donated all of the net proceeds to the Caddo, Hubbard Creek and Wayland volunteer fire departments of Stephens County. Last year, the bike ride raised more than $41,000 and donated more than $13,000 each to the three volunteer fire departments. Details on how much money will be donated to the VFDs this year will be announced at a later date.
