Buckaroo powerlifting boys qualify for state meet; state send-off for girls set for Wednesday

Three Breckenridge High School boys will compete in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s state meet on Friday, March 22, in Abilene.

At the Region 6 Division 3 meet on Friday, March 8, the Buckaroos Powerlifting Team competed at Decatur High School, placing eighth as a team out of 23 teams. At the regional meet, 14 Buckaroos competed — the most of any school in the region — earning three medals and setting multiple personal records.

The state qualifiers include Erik Saucedo, 2nd place, 1,015 total, 40 lb. PR; Ashton Reyes, 2nd place, 1,435 total; and Nathan Roberts, Qualifying Total of 1,300.

Additionally, Carlos Alvarado received a 5th place medal for a total of 805. The other Buckaroo top finishers were: Fabricio Davila, 6th place 1,370 total, 20 lb. PR; Alex Saucedo, 6th place, 1,105 total, 35 lb. PR; Adrian Saucedo, 6th place, 795 total, 15 lb. PR; Trevin McAlmond, 7th place, 660 total, 20 lb. PR; Cole Morton, 9th place, 1,335 total; Caiden Marin, 9th place, 1,340 total, 75 lb. PR; Chey Wild, 9th place, 610 total, 35 lb. PR; Eduardo Salazar, 10th place, 1,060 total, 35 lb. PR; and Jaydev Fernandez, 10th place, 735 total, 25 lb. PR.

“Congratulations to these young men. I am very proud of their determination to exceed expectations,”  BHS Coach Jarrod Shepperd wrote on Facebook. “Let’s wish these 3 state qualifiers the best of luck as they prepare to compete at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene. Go, Bucks!”

Three Breckenridge High School girls will be competing in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s State Powerlifting contest this week in Frisco with a send-off tentatively planned for Wednesday afternoon, March 11.
