Christmas Parade lights up downtown Breckenridge; local holiday activities continue
By Carla McKeown/Breckenridge Texan
Walker Street in downtown Breckenridge was a steady stream of colorful lights for about 30 minutes Saturday night, Dec. 9, as the annual Christmas Parade entertained the community.
Spectators lined both sides of the street while floats and other entries representing the parade’s theme of “A Candy Land Christmas.”
The event, which was hosted by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, also included a short concert by the Breckenridge High School marching band on the steps of the Stephens County Courthouse, which was lit up with red and green lights. Additionally, children had an opportunity to take pictures with Santa, who was at the community Christmas tree in Foundation Park at the corner of Breckenridge Avenue and Walker Street.
The floats were judged before the start of the parade on interpretation of the theme, creativity and originality. First place was awarded to the Stephens County 4-H organization; second place went to Walmart; and, third place went to the Breckenridge Elks Lodge.
