The new owners of the Buffalo RV Park are expanding the plan of the original owner and have turned the facility on the west side of Breckenridge into a KOA campground.

Ken Stephens, Sharon Low and Jordan Ditty held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce last week, unveiling some of the changes they’ve made to the property originally built by Tommy Wimberley, who was on-hand for the event. The RV park is located at 2833 W. Walker St. The three also own the KOA campground in Dublin, Texas.

Today, Oct. 31, the Buffalo RV Park is hosting a Halloween event (click here for more details). Earlier this year, they hosted a Fourth of July event.

“We just really want to engage with the community and produce family friendly events out here, and hopefully we’ll get good engagement from the community with people coming out,” Ditty said at the ribbon cutting event. “We’ve invested a good amount into the park over the past year or so of our ownership, and we really want to turn it into the premier park in Breckenridge and the surrounding area.”

The new KOA campground features a small shop that is currently stocked with a few items, such as bottled water, juice, condiments, chips, first aid items, RV supplies, fishing rods, propane canisters and more. The owners said they will be adding some more shelves and items to the shop soon.

Additionally, the facility includes bathrooms with showers and a laundry room.  There are also tent sites, a playground area for kids, areas for cornhole and horseshoes, a small dog park. The pond is stocked with bass, perch and catfish, and nearby is a pavilion for barbecuing and/or picnicking. And Boudreaux the bison (aka buffalo) calls the park home.

“Sunrises and sunsets on the pond are phenomenal,” Stephens said. “And we have twice daily feedings of our local bison here, so he hangs out at seven and four (by the main office).”

They’ve also added boat and RV storage spots, which are scheduled to be available this week.  Some of the things that they plan to add to the campground soon include paddleboats for the pond and cabins that campers can rent.

As a KOA campground, the 61 RV slots, as well as the tent sites and eventually the cabins, can be booked online through the KOA website. Breckenridge’s Buffalo RV Park is one of 28 KOA campgrounds in Texas.
