When a fire destroyed their home in the 800 block of West Walker Street last month, L.T. and Karol Dent lost just about everything, and now their granddaughter has created a GoFundMe page to help them recover.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 10, the Breckenridge Fire Department responded to the fire. They prevented the fire from spreading to other properties, but the Dent’s house was destroyed.

According to the GoFundMe page, L.T. Dent was out of town and Karol Dent was able to get out of the house OK. However, their granddaughter explains, once she was outside, Karol fell and fractured a vertebrae.

“The entire house and its contents were a total loss,” Addisen King wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Unfortunately, my grandmother had recently paid off the home and allowed the insurance to lapse. Therefore, all of the expenses will fall on my grandparents. At ages 72 and 75, they are both retired and on a fixed/limited budgets, so these out of pocket expenses will be quite burdensome. Many friends, family, community members and others have expressed their their interest in an avenue to help alleviate this unfortunate situation. The funds donated to this account will be used to clean/clear the site from the fire and to cover living expenses to repair and rebuild a new living arrangement. Any and all prayers, acts of kindness and donations are much appreciated. Thank you for your generosity and continual concern.”
