Troy Begeman
Troy Begeman, 83, of Breckenridge, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Rodgers and Dr. Genoa Goad officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, August 11, at Morehart Mortuary.
Troy Fritz Begeman was born May 21, 1940, in Electra, Texas, to parents Fritz Henry Begeman and Clara Ruth Horn Begeman. He graduated from Electra High School in 1958. On November 29, 1958, Troy married Carol Jeanette McDaniel in Electra. Troy and Carol moved to Utah in 1978, and Troy worked as a pipe fitter for Morton Thiokol until his retirement in 2002. In 2011, the Begemans moved back to Breckenridge to be closer to family. Troy loved spending time with his family and especially making homemade ice cream for the grandkids. He also enjoyed watching his great-grandkids play sports. Troy was a member of First Baptist Church and worked as a custodian and office/outdoor engineer from 2011 until he retired again in 2021. He will be remembered for his famous saying, “Never pass up a free shot.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 62 years, Carol Begeman in 2021; and one sister, Paula Rodgers.
Mr. Begeman is survived by four children, Terri Atkinson and husband Les, Steve Begeman and wife Jan, Deanna Post and husband Mickey, all of Breckenridge, and Jeanna Roderick and husband Curtis of Hyrum, Utah; two grandsons that he raised from the time they were small, Joshua Jenson and Keifer Jenson; two sisters, Amelia Ray of Snyder and Kay Shelley and husband Kenneth of Cleburne; one brother, Jimmy Begeman and wife Maurine of Paradise; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.

The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
