Stephens Memorial Hospital has two different activities related to school supplies going on at this time for the Breckenridge community.

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m., SMH will host a Snow Cones and School Supplies Back-to-School Bash in the lobby of the hospital’s business office, located across the street from the main entrance of the hospital, at 207 S. Geneva St.

At the Bash, they will be giving out free drawstring backpacks with school supplies in them. Solaris Hospice will also be handing out free Snow Cones, and Breckenridge Medical Center will provide information regarding vaccines that are needed for students heading back to school.

The hospital also is teaming up with the Breckenridge Police Department to help provide school supplies to the Breckenridge Independent School District to hand out to students who need them. SMH has purchased 100 backpacks and is collecting supplies to fill them.

There are donation boxes set up in the SMH front lobby, 200 S. Geneva St.; at the hospital’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Center, 202 S. Hartford St.; at Breckenridge Medical Center, 101 S. Hartford St; and the Breckenridge Police Department, 210 E. Dyer St.

On Friday, July 28, SMH and BPD will have a donation booth in front of Walmart, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., accepting donations of school supplies. All of the school supplies collected will be donated to BISD students.

“There are 90+ BISD students who depend on these supplies to start the school year, so we greatly appreciate any support we can get,” SMH Business Office Director Chris Curtis said in an email. “We want to make sure all BISD students have the tools they need to succeed.”
