City of Breckenridge issues Boil Water Notice for western portion of city

The City of Breckenridge has declared a Boil Water Notice effective Friday, May 5, 2023, for several blocks on the west side of the city.

The notice is for the area around Walmart, McDonald’s, the Breckenridge Country Club and more. See the map below for more details.

According to an email from City Manager Cynthia Northrop, a subcontractor on the FM 3099 project hit a water main. City of Breckenridge crews are on-site and have called in a locate (several utilities in the area). They will begin repairs as soon as the lines are located, Northrop said.

Due to the situation, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City to notify all customers within the affected area to boil their water prior to consumption. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

The Boil Water Notice will be in effect for a minimum of 48 hours. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify each customer directly in the affected area.

For more information, call the City Offices at 254-559-8287 or the Water Office at 254-559-7249.
