Early Voting continues today and Tuesday, May 1-2, for the Breckenridge City Commission and Local Option elections, and Election Day will be Saturday, May 6. The election is open only to those living in Breckenridge.

In the City Commission race, incumbent Gary Mercer and Raymond S. Ensey are running for Place 4. Vince Moore is running unopposed for Place 3.

The Local Option Election will allow the voters to decide whether or not to allow the sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages and liquor, in Breckenridge. The law would allow restaurants and bars, with the proper licensing, to sell alcohol-based drinks without requiring customers to have a membership. Additionally, if approved by the voters, the law will allow liquor stores within the city limits. Both Early Voting and Election Day voting will be held at the City Offices, 105 N. Rose. Ave. Early Voting will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For those voting on Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

When you go to the polls to vote, you need to have an acceptable form of a photo ID.

According to the State of Texas, acceptable forms of photo ID include:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Passport (book or card)

With the exception of the U.S. Citizenship Certificate, which does not expire, for voters aged 18-69, the acceptable form of photo identification may be expired no more than four years before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place. For voters aged 70 or older, the acceptable form of photo identification may be expired for any length of time if the identification is otherwise valid.

Election Identification Certificates are available from DPS driver license offices during regular business hours.

If you do not have one of those seven forms of ID and cannot reasonably obtain one, the State of Texas will allow some alternative forms of ID. Click here to read more about how to vote if you do not have an approved ID.
