Charles Evers, age 78, of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at First Methodist Church with Pastor Samantha Chambers officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Charles Earl Evers was born September 7, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, to parents, Alphonce C. Evers and Anna Ida Hess Evers. After high school, Charles joined the United States Air Force and served for several years until his honorable discharge. He then went on to become an accountant. In 1986, Charles married Elaine Baker in Amarillo. The two enjoyed traveling and lived in Maturin, Venezuela, and Cedar Hill, Texas, before moving to Breckenridge in 2008. Charles worked as an accountant for Petex until his retirement. He loved the Lord and was involved with McCurdy Ministries in Espanola, New Mexico. Charles was an active member of First Methodist Church in Breckenridge, where he helped with Café Love weekly for several years. On December 11, 2021, he married Sherry Savage and they made many special memories together. Charles was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking. He also liked to cook and make jellies and salsa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his previous wife; and four siblings, Shirley Evers Woodard, Patsy Husman, Weldon Evers and Sonny Evers.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Evers of Breckenridge; his children, Janice Adams of Aztec, New Mexico, Sherrie Padilla and husband Pete, Sarah Lockhart and husband Ted, Rebecca Strickler and husband Nick, all of Amarillo, Dana Breshears and wife Morgan of Aubrey; one sister, Carolyn Snyder and husband Dennis of Canyon; two brothers, Eddie Evers of Canyon and Donnie Evers and wife Eugenia of Corpus Christi; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Café Love at First Methodist Church or to the McCurdy Ministries Community Center and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
