Breckenridge Rotarians deliver dictionaries to area third-graders
During the month of March, members of the Rotary Club of Breckenridge delivered dictionaries to the third-grade classrooms in Breckenridge and Moran.
The Rotary Dictionary Project is part of a nationwide effort to make sure students have their own personal dictionaries. The dictionary that is given to the students is more than words and definitions; it’s more of a reference book with information on the United States flag, the 50 states, the world, the planets, sign language, and Braille. The kids love going on a scavenger hunt to find out who was the President of the United States the year they were born, what the longest word in the English language is, and other fun facts.
The Rotary Club of Breckenridge has been participating in the Dictionary Project since 2010, distributing over 1,848 copies during that time. The first thing Rotarians ask them to do when they receive their book is to write their name on the inside cover so they know it is their gift to keep.
