Work on the U.S. Highway 183 North road project will resume no later than Monday, March 20, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, which has a new contractor to complete the work that was started in the summer of 2021.

The original contractor on the project was declared by TxDOT to be in default of the contract. Since that time, the surety company has executed a contract with Prater Dirt Work as the completion contractor, according to information provided by Lisa Tipton, the TxDOT Brownwood District public information officer. Prater Dirt Work is the contractor that was also awarded the FM 3099 Project.

TxDOT is working with Prater Dirt Work to develop a schedule with an adequate completion date. Originally, the roadwork was scheduled to be completed last summer.
