The community has just a few more days to see the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center’s 31st annual Juried Art Show and Competition as the show wraps up this week, culminating with a reception for the artists.

The reception will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. There will be a queso and nachos bar, and the reception will be free and open to the public.

Saturday will also be the last day of the Juried Art Show exhibit, which features a variety of paintings, drawings, sculpture and fiber art.

The paintings and drawings include oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, pencils, watercolor pencils, charcoal, and mixed media. There are also sculptures, pottery and other pieces in bronze, fiber, and ceramic. The artists come from as near as Breckenridge and as far away as New York, Arizona, Louisiana, Illinois and New Mexico. Most of the artists are from Texas, though, including Graham, Wichita Falls, Abilene, Palo Pinto, Denton, Midland, Trophy Club, Dallas, Hurst, Forney, Dublin, Grand Prairie, Granbury, Fort Worth, Huntsville and more.

More than 80 pieces of art were chosen by Breckenridge artist Doylene Land, this year’s juror. Her oil paintings were featured in a 2020 exhibit at the BFAC, and she was one of five artists included in the Winter Exhibit earlier this year.

More than $5,ooo, it total, was awarded for the following prizes:

  • Best of Show (first place): New Kid on the Street, oil, by Maureen Killaby of Lindale
  • Clay Pitzer Memorial Award (second place): Offering of Strength, oil, by Barbara Hack of Flower Mound
  • Lester and Virginia Clark Memorial Award (third place): Grains of Life II, pencil, by Patsy Lindamood of Huntsville
  • Travis H. Toland Memorial Award (fourth place): Fancy, fiber, by Iwona Jankowski of Magnolia
