Nicole Cantrell

Nicole Cantrell

What office are you seeking?  Stephens County Treasurer

What is your current occupation? Lead Pharmacy Tech at Wal-Mart Pharmacy and pharmacy tech at SMH

Tell us a little bit about your family.  My husband’s name is Jimmie Cantrell and we have been married 23 years in May! We have two children, our son Tanner, and our daughter Jimi Grace. I was born and raised here and am proud to be able to raise my children here!

What are your community involvements/civic affiliations? I am a member of First Baptist Church

What is your education/military service? Graduated Breckenridge High School

What training, experiences and characteristics qualify you for this position?  I have been a pharmacy tech for 15 years. In that time I have had to keep up with the ever changing rules and laws of pharmacy. I also have to keep up my license by doing 20 hours of continuing education every two years.   I also work as a tech at our local hospital. I understand HIPPA and discrepancy in HR.  I am a quick learner and am not afraid of a challenge. I know how to adapt and overcome to changes that come my way.

What do you think are the most critical issues facing the community and what would you do to address them, if elected? If elected, I will be determined and dedicated to do my absolute best as county treasurer. To learn all the ways to help my community grow and help where ever I am needed. I will continue to seek out educational  opportunities and resources that will allow me to do the best job possible.

Describe an accomplishment of which you are proud and how it helps make you the best candidate for the office? By the Grace of God, I feel like I have accomplished many tasks put before me. From becoming Lead Pharmacy Tech to raising a family and everything in between.  I am proud of the fact that I am  married to my grade school sweetheart and that we are raising our children where we grew up! Working in the public like I have for the last 23 years has allowed me help and serve my community. Once I start something, I am determined to see it through and dedicated to do my  best! I put forth my absolute best in all I do and will do nothing less then that if I’m elected for county treasurer. Thank you, and God Bless!

What office are you seeking?  Stephens County Treasurer

What is your current occupation?  Stephens County Treasurer

Tell us a little bit about your family.  My husband, John Trigg, Sr., and I have been married for 48 years and we have lived all of those years in Breckenridge.  John is retired from the City of Breckenridge where he worked at the cemetery.  We have two sons, John, Jr. and Daniel.  We have one grandson, Collin Michael Trigg.

What is your education/military service? I graduated from Seagraves High School in Seagraves, Texas.  I have 340 required education credits and 85 hours of required investment training through the County Treasurer’s Association of Texas. I have the required training in Texas open government laws.

What training, experiences and characteristics qualify you for this position?  I worked from September 1978 to December 2004 for the former County Auditor, Evelyn Simmons. I was appointed County Treasurer on January 1, 2005, after Nancy Clary retired on December 31, 2004.  I received invaluable training and knowledge from both officials and I am confident and dedicated in performing the statutory duties of the County Treasurer.  The County Auditor’s office was abolished in May 2005 after Mrs. Simmons retired and my office is responsible for performing some of those duties.  I am honored that the voters have entrusted me to serve the citizens of Stephens County and I provide a professional and welcoming office for those that need assistance.

What do you think are the most critical issues facing the community and what would you do to address them, if elected? One main concern is how the price of oil affects our county tax base and collections.  The other taxing entities are also affected and that means our community is affected, too.  Stephens County relies to a great degree on ad valorem taxation to operate and provide services.  The County Treasurer doesn’t make decisions regarding this issue or other critical or governing issues.  However, I meet any and all challenges affecting my office through decisions made by the Commissioners Court concerning any issues that may arise.

Describe an accomplishment of which you are proud and how it helps make you the best candidate for the office? I am proud of the service I have provided as County Treasurer and continue to improve and update the treasurer’s office upon approval of the Commissioners Court. I am experienced, qualified and dedicated and I would be honored to continue serving Stephens County.

Editor’s Note:

Each candidate in a contested Stephens County race in the 2022 Primary Election was contacted by phone and was presented with a list of questions via email or U.S. Postal Service or in person, depending on the candidate’s ability to receive the questions.

All of the questionnaires were exactly the same. We asked the following questions:

  • Name:
  • What office are you seeking?
  • What is your current occupation?
  • Tell us a little bit about your family.
  • What are your community involvements/civic affiliations?
  • What is your education/military service?
  • What training, experiences and characteristics qualify you for this position?
  • What do you think are the most critical issues facing the community and what would you do to address them, if elected?
  • Describe an accomplishment of which you are proud and how it helps make you the best candidate for the office?

If a candidate’s profile does not include a specific question, it is because they didn’t answer that question.

The only editing we did was to run a basic spell-check on the files and to put the questionnaires in a standard format.
