The Breckenridge Buckaroos and Lady Bucks athletic schedules will look somewhat different for the 2022-2024 school years with the football team facing a couple of teams that have just moved down from 4A.

“We are in an extremely tough district, but we will prepare and be ready for the district opener,” head football coach and athletic director Casey Pearce said. “Having two teams drop from 4A Division II, we know what kind of competitiveness that will bring. I feel like our non-district schedule will prepare us for that tough district.”

The new schedules were recently announced by the University Interscholastic League as part of its biennial alignments.

“We will have our work cut out for us,” Pearce said of the new districts. “We need to focus on ‘us’ and what we control and get ready to go compete.”

Football

The Buckaroo football team will stay in District 3-3A Division I but will have some new opponents in Iowa Park and Vernon, that both dropped down from 4A Division II. The Bucks will also add Bowie to the schedule for the next two years as a district opponent.

Of the three new teams, Iowa Park was the lone playoff team from 2021. The Hawks were 3-1 in district play and made it to the bi-district round of the playoffs.

The Bucks will continue to face Clyde and Jim Ned as district opponents for the next two years.

Removed from the district schedule by the UIL were Early, Wall and San Angelo TLCA.

The non-district schedule for the Bucks will begin with a home game against Jacksboro on Aug. 26 before a road game in Childress on Sept. 2, followed by another home game against Cisco on Sept. 9.

Other non-district games for the Bucks include a trip to Eastland on Sept. 16 before hosting Benbrook Sept. 23 for the final non-district game, which will also be homecoming.

The Bucks will open district play with back-to-back road games at Iowa Park and Vernon on Oct. 7 and 14. The district home opener will be Oct. 21 against Jim Ned, followed by a trip to Bowie on Oct. 28 and then hosting Clyde in the district finale on Nov. 4.

VOLLEYBALL

The old district found the Lady Bucks facing teams to the north of Breckenridge geographically with Bowie, Henrietta, Holliday, Jacksboro, Nocona and Wichita Falls City View, while the new 2022-23 alignment will see the Lady Bucks travel south and east.

The Lady Bucks will be in District 8-3A and will face Brock, Comanche, Dublin, Early, Milsap and Peaster.

BASKETBALL

The 2022-23 Bucks and Lady Bucks basketball district will be identical to the volleyball district with the exception of the district number. The Bucks and Lady Bucks will move from District 7-3A to District 8-3A.

The spring sports (baseball, softball, track, tennis and golf) will have the same district as the basketball and volleyball teams.
