Local firefighters respond to structure fire; one in custody

Breckenridge firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Smith Street shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday evening, Jan. 28. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the abandoned structure was completely engulfed in flames.

The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time, and it is under investigation. However, according to officials at the scene, one person is in custody and investigators are reviewing nearby security cameras.

In addition to the Breckenridge fire units, firefighters from the Hubbard Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene, as well as emergency responders from the Breckenridge Police Department and AMR Emergency services. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control.
