Wendell D. Wimberley

Wendell Wimberley, 62, of Breckenridge, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Gunsight Baptist Church, with Danny Brown officiating. The family will welcome friends for a visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories.

Wendell Dean “Wimp” Wimberley was born April 5, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, to Tommy Wimberley and Pansy “Pak” Dendy. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1977, where he was part of the high school rodeo team. After high school, he went on to cowboy at area ranches until entering the oilfield industry. Later, he went to work for his father until his sickness took him away from the life of hard work he always knew. He worked hard for his family and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. He raised his four kids and was there to love and welcome any kid who may have needed a place to call home.

Wimp loved to talk about his days of bull riding and rodeoing. He enjoyed being horseback and tending to cows with his Uncle Earl. He loved being “on the hill,” whether it be hunting, fishing, or feeding his cows. He took pride in having the “big tank” where many kids caught their first fish. He was a quiet, laid-back man who took pride in his family. He taught his children the value of hard work and respect. People often say that a man’s success can be measured in the reflection of his children. Wimp led a very successful life, full of love, laughter, and plenty of orneriness to go around. A favorite pastime of his was to pick on the people he loved.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Dennis and Belle Wimberley, and Gene and Susie Dendy; his stepdad, Jimmy Bryant; in-laws, B.C. and Eva Diaz; sister-in-law, Mary Lopez; brother-in-law, Robert Diaz; aunt and uncle, Nadene and Earl Dendy; and one cousin, Eddie Dendy.

Wimp is survived by his sons, Cody Wimberley and wife Michelle, Cory Wimberley and wife Cassie, and Coby Wimberley and wife Gentry; daughter, Brooke Tichenor and husband Kyle; companion of 12 years, Teena Logan; the mother of his children, Sally Diaz; father, Tommy Wimberley and wife Sharon; mother, Pak Bryant; brother, Doug Wimberley; sisters, Peggy Sue Gonzales and Kerrie Olivarez; stepbrother, David Byrant; grandkids, Matthew, Sawyer, Wyatt, Cooper, Claire, Audra, KaDee, Travis, Shawn Michael, Bradley, Hunter, Hayden, Grace, Abby, Tanner, and Cody; great-grandchildren, Emma, Ashley, Kinsleigh, and Kaylen; along with multiple nieces and nephews as well as a large group of friends who will miss him dearly.

Memorial donations in Wimp’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) and may be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
